Dear John

In Dear John, a young man named John Tyree joins the army after a long and difficult life with his quiet father. Relieved to leave the house, he sees the world unfold before his eyes, with thousands of new prospects, before missing his existence.
By taking advantage of his first leave to visit his father, in Wilmington. He meets Savannah Lynn Curtis, after an incident with her purse, which he rescues and then posing as a hero, the girl is invited to join his group friends at a barbecue. An instant bond is established between them and they can no longer stay away from each other.
But time passes and, though I believe they have found the love of their lifes, John is forced to return to the Army after two weeks of intense romantic relationship. Savannah promises to wait for his return, after the completion of duties with the Armed Forces.
What the two lovers couldn’t imagine were that the terrible events of Sept. 11, when the United States suffered an unforgettable terrorist attack. This will change everything in their lives.  John is forced to make a choice that can definitely affect his relationship with Savannah.
The boy enlists for another two years and the exchange of letters between him and loved one will acquire a less passionate tone, and the messages space apart, which can lead both to believe that the connection between them is not strong enough to transcend the time and space and keep them together.

Social Networks

In the classroom, we watched a movie called ‘ The Social Network’, which tells the story of Mark Zuckerberg, a senior systems analyst at Harvard, who sits at a computer and starts working on a new idea. In just a few years it reaches a large number of ‘friends’. Zuckerberg becomes the youngest billionaire in history with his successful creation, Facebook. But success brings complications to his social and professional life.

After seeing the movie, our teacher gave us guidance on how is an essay supposed to be and also made some questions that were to be answered, the issue was social networks.

As the Internet is a network without boundaries and with different roles in society, I think it will bring new ways to communicate to people, not only the internet is a network without limits but it is also a medium where revolution necessarely needs to occur. On the Internet, every year there are new virtual resources and programming languages allowing the construction of sites. The ‘net’ encourages communication and also provides a wide range of free applications.

From generation to generation the way we relate has been changing, the way we live with people in society. We live in a generation that has more information than past generations. The internet has enabled new ways of communicating with people from different cultures allowing the sharing of opinions, criticisms and suggestions via email. We can now communicate anywhere in the world through MSN. In the world we live in is almost impossible to live without the digital age’s advanced technologies. This means of communication are so precious.

But some good stuff is also being lost, for example, the personal contact between people. This is being lost because people are giving more value to more practical things.

The Internet has its advantages such as: purchasing programs for music, accessing informative sites and even seeing what is being broadcasted live by some show and learning ‘via Internet’. The internet it has also its drawbacks as the removal of social physicality in relationships, the lack of self security, corruption of Privacy and dependence. We all already know, the Internet offers benefits and disadvantages, so people must learn to use the Internet in a healthy way.

Peolple talk of media ecology

The evolution and extinction not have always been the basic rule of media ecology. There are always new predators of the media, but many species normally adapt rather than disappear. This is the message of two important theorists of communication and history, Marshall McLuhan and Neil Postman. The estimates of missing accumulate.

College freshmen do not wear watches, but more phones to check the time and rarely use email, instead of e-mails, are increasingly using text messages and phone conversations are reserved for the most important dialogs, tricky.
The expansion of mobile devices has led to the creation of specific software applications that facilitate the reading of a text or watch a video on smaller screens than computers.
The evolution of media, of course, causes victims. The most common are the means of distribution and storage, especially physicists, who can be transformed into bits (smallest unit of data transfer) digital.

The ability to concentrate and decreased evolved as the most skilled manipulators of the media can attest. ‘I love IPAD’ Negroponte admits ‘but I can not concentrate on reading a long story and I’m always trying to check my e-mails, look for the words high and keep clicking on the links.” And people, just like technology, influence this bustling media ecology.

Interesting facts of the internet

The Internet is a conglomerate of worldwide networks of millions of computers interconnected by TCP / IP protocol that allows access to information and all kinds of data transfer. She carries a wide variety of features and services, including documents connected by hyperlinks on the World Wide Web, and infrastructure to support services such as email and instant communication and file sharing.

The word Internet is traditionally written with a capital letter, as a proper name. Internet Society, Internet Engineering Task Force, ICANN, World Wide Web Consortium and several other related organizations use this convention in their publications. Likewise, various newspapers, magazines and newspapers use the same term, including The New York Times, Associated Press and Time.

Other organizations claim that the first letter should be lowercase (internet) and that the “internet” is enough to distinguish between “an internet” used elsewhere. Publications using this form are absent in academia, but present in media as The Economist and The Guardian.

Internet and internet have different meanings. While the Internet means a collection of interconnected computer networks, the Internet refers to the global public Internet, provided by Internet Protocol. Thus, there are numerous scattered internets private networks, or connecting businesses, universities and private homes. However, there is only a single global network, the set of all networks, the Internet.

The Beginning The city of Piracicaba in the 1910’s was known as “Perola Paulista” (pearl from São Paulo) due to the advanced intellectual level of its population. At that time, two traditional families of Piracicaba, the Pousa and the Guerrini, ran the amateur football in the city. The the Pousa family managed the Pousa Vergueirense Sports Club, while the Guerrini managed the 12 de Outubro (october 12). In October 1913, the two families got together and decided to set up a single team that represented the city. Carlos Wingeter, dentist and captain of the Brazilian National Guard, was invited to be the president of the club being formed. Wingeter swiftly accepted the invitation, making only one requirement: the name of the new team would have to be named Quinze de Novembro (November 15th) to honor the date of the proclamation of the Republic. This was the kickoff for the materialization of Esporte Clube XV Novembro de Piracicaba, the team was quickly accepted by the population Piracicaba.

The XV de Piracicaba, as is well known nationally, several times was among both São Paulo’s and Brazil’s elite soccer teams. In the State, his greatest achievement was the vice-championship in 1976.XV is four-time champion of Sao Paulo’s division-two.

Another reason why the club is known is its mascot: the traditional Nho Quim, created by Nino Borges, designer of the Gazeta Esportiva (newspaper), and then perfected by Edson Rontani, Nho Quim depicts the typical quinzista fan. But it’s tradition is not confined to national territory. In 1964, the XV de Piracicaba made a tour through Europe and Asia. At that time, Brazil was twice world champion of football, but only Santos Futebol Clube and Botafogo Futebol e Regatas had performed in this type of travel. The team was again a pioneer from Piracicaba games and played in Sweden, Western Poland, in West and East Germany.

After that, the team lived turbulent phase that culminated in the fall for the second and then third division for the state.

Even outside the national “elite”, in 1998 XV de Piracicaba won seven consecutive victories at the start of the Brazilian Championship B Series.

In 2005, the team gained access to the A2 Championship Series. At the time, Piracicaba fanatical fans showed up in force at the stadium Barão de Serra Negra, establishing the largest audience in the history of the third division Paulista 22.025 people watched the game against Monte Azul. XV won by 3 x 1. The team rose to the second division, but the following year once again was demoted. Since then XV de Piracicaba has been restructuring, organizing and planning their activities, placing high on the categories. The results started to appear in 2007, when the team managed to reach the first playoff of Division 1 Campeonato Paulista Sub-20, which had as champion Santos Futebol Clube. In 2008, XV de Piracicaba with a poor planning was unable to win Paulista championship A3 series. But the year was not all bad for XV as the club reached the final of Copa Paulista 2008, being defeated by Atletico Sorocaba in Barão de Serra Negra 3-2.

In 2010, the XV de Piracicaba played again the A3 Paulista Series. After a turbulent start, the team finished the first phase of the competition in seventh place and qualified for the next step. In the second phase, managed to finish second in their group and granted access to the A2 Series after epic battles with Comercial in the city of Ribeirao Preto.

Lineup With the Yellow Brick Road

‘The Wizard of Oz’ is an American film, from 1939, produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. It is based on the children’s book by L. Frank Baum, of the same title. This film is about a trip of a little girl, Dorothy Gale, who is trapped by a tornado in Kansas and led to a fantastic land of witches, cowardly lions, a talking scarecrows and more. The film starring Judy Garland also casts Frank Morgan, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, Bert Lahr, Billie Burke and Margaret Hamilton.

Little Dorothy lived with her uncle and aunt in a small farm in Kansas. Beside them, Dorothy had a pet, called Toto, which disappeared in the middle of a storm. When she goes looking for him, she hides in a shelter from storms, but she is caught up in a cyclone and she ends up in a distant and unknown land. She finds her pet Toto.

The unknown land is called Munchkin Country, in the Land of Oz. The falling house kills the Wicked Witch of the East, which was really bad. The local residents, the Munchkins, along with the Good Witch of the North, to greet Dorothy give her a pair of ruby shoes to show their thanks.

In order to go back to her home, she should seek the Wizard of Oz, in the Emerald City, and ask for help. To get there, she should walk the yellow brick road. And so she did with her dog, in search of this wizard.

In her way, she meets a Scarecrow incapable of scare the birds of a cornfield. The Scarecrow wants have a brain so he can have many ideas and show his intelligence. So, Dorothy invites the Scarecrow to go with her to meet the Wizard of Oz, assuming that he will help her new friend.

Soon after, Dorothy meets another person: the Tin Woodman. He was a lumberjack, that after a hex, from the witch, was cast upon him, had his members replaced by tin members. The Tin Woodman had a dream, too. He wanted a real heart. So Dorothy also invites him to go talking to the Wizard, so he would get his long dreamed heart.

They followed the yellow brick broad until a Lion crossed the way, scaring Dorothy and her friends. However, Dorothy discovers that the Lion, in truth, was scared, because he hadn’t got any courage. He was a Cowardly Lion. Though he was fearful, the Cowardly Lion dreamed of having courage. Hearing this, Dorothy convinces the Cowardly Lion to go to the Emerald City and beg for courage to the Wizard of Oz.

With the help her friends, Dorothy and Toto could find the Wizard of Oz, who proposes a challenge to grant all their wishes: steal the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West. Dorothy and her friends somehow steal the broom and end up killing the Witch and returning to the Emerald City. Getting there, they discover that the Wizard of Oz was nothing more than an old man that worked at a circus.

Nevertheless, he grants all the requests, giving a certificate from a university to the Scarecrow, a real heart to the Tin Woodman and a medal for bravery to the Cowardly Lion. For Dorothy, he comes up with a balloon to get her out of Oz. But, Toto jumps from the balloon and Dorothy jumps after him and the balloon goes away.

To go back home, Dorothy’s friends decide go to talking to the Good Witch of the North, so she can help her. The Good Witch of the North says that for Dorothy to go back toKansas, she needed to use her shoes. The ruby shoes she was wearing, could take her anywhere she wanted to go. Using the magic shoes, Dorothy returns to home and finds her family.

Like Dorothy, we’re also on a journey. Life is a journey, in which we meet many people. Everybody is looking for something; ones for love/feelings, others for wisdom and others yet search for courage to meet challenges day by day. We’re always after something to complete us to make us even, to better ourselves and to leave behind for the world. That is not yet lost in this earth.

This journey, that is the life, is always playing us a hoax. Having us meet good people and bad people, that have the same objectives as our own, or not. Life always gives us opportunities of living together and opportunities to help other people. Each person that Dorothy met in her way home represents situations which we may live in our own lives.

However, where do we want to go? What is our objective in life? In each moment, our life takes directions, and we must know where we want to go, we must know which path we must walk and in which people we can trust. Life teaches us these things.

A thing we must know: our choices always lead us somewhere. This place may be or not the place that we want. Like it this place or not, will only make our yearnings greater or bring then to an end. If we like being in the place where our choices brought us, certainly we’ll cease our desires and will no longer find a way to go back home. But, if the place where we are now is not our place, we’ll find ways to take us to the right place, in which we’ll want to be.

In each moment of our lives, we desire being in a different place. When we were children, our place was with our friends. When we grow, our place isn’t anymore with our friends, but we want a partner, with who we can share our feelings and live our dreams. When we are old, our place becomes a quiet home, where we can rest and live together with our family.

Today, in the stage of life in which I find myself, my journey is not yet complete. I have many paths to go until I get to my ideal place.

My searching has not ended, nor will it end soon. I’ll earn my master’s degree and maybe even take a Ph. D. in order to get a better job. I still do not know if I’ll be a college professor, but the likelihood of this happening is not remote. My choices have led me to opt for short paths, which still do not show me the end of the road. Nevertheless, I still am lining the road, letting its own way show me the end.
